Solstice defined is a furthest or culminating point, a turning point, or either of the two times a year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. And if you know the members of My Solstice or their music, then you know the name fits them perfectly. When Brandon's former band Wreckless Process (Vigilant Records) went on hiatus in July 2006, he suddenly had the time to write and create something different, which was something he'd been wanting to do for some time. Meanwhile, having nothing going on musically at the time, guitarist Dustin was also in the market for a change. It was a perfect match. After recording a short demo at a friends studio, Dustin presented Brandon with a 2 song cd that featured some of the material that he'd been working on. That was the spark that lit the fire. From that moment on, the two continued writing for what would eventually be their debut album. Without a name, or a real direction, but with passion running through their veins, they spent the next 5 months building chemistry, and creating something new. Many days locked inside a practice space, a few different name changes, and several acoustic gigs later, they started to realize that something special was taking form. Wanting to take this 2 man acoustic idea/project thing to the next level, they decided to contact a few friends to complete a full band. These "hired guns" came in the form of Ely Gattenby (drums) and Tom Pritner (bass), and both helped to expand the sound that Brandon and Dustin had originally created. In December 2006, they entered Armstrong Recording to begin the process of recording their first album. Having worked with legendary guitarist/producer/engineer Stephen Egerton in Brandon's previous band and loving the results, it just seemed natural to work with him again. After 3 months of recording, engineering, mixing, and mastering, the final product was finished, and the band was ready to take on the world. In the meantime, however, clips of these recordings could be heard on sites such as Myspace, Purevolume, and more, along with radio play on 104.5 The Edge in Tulsa, garnering them attention everywhere. They especially caught the ear of the people at Fat Lip Entertainment & Yeah Siam Records, garnering them deals with both entities. The album release party was held in their hometown of Tulsa, OK on June 22, 2007, and an Itunes & in store release was on September 1st. In July 2007, My Solstice was a featured artist at Diversafest (www.dfest.com), playing alongside the likes of The Flaming Lips, Leon Russell, Shiny Toy Guns, The Vanished, & many more, and was even featured on the official Dfest compilation CD, which had nearly 10,000 copies distributed. Members of My Solstice have shared the stage with national bands such as Trapt, Story Of The Year, Day Of Fire, Spitalfield, Mourning September, Five Bolt Main, New Dead Radio, Project 86, Showbread, InhaleExhale, Full Scale, The Feds, & many more! Look for My Solstice to be coming to a town near you, as they attempt to put their debut album titled "Beyond The Horizon", in every hand, store, and radio station they possibly can. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
